At Hamilton Billiards, we pride ourselves on turning bold design ideas into working, one-of-a-kind pieces. One of our most memorable recent projects was a bespoke stone pool table, designed and built for an interior designer working on a luxury home in Wiltshire. This table wasn’t just a centrepiece - it was a true fusion of architecture, craftsmanship, and functionality.
The Vision
The brief was clear: create a pool table that didn’t just sit in a room, but defined it. To meet the high expectations, we worked closely with the interior designer from the start. The concept centred around using natural stone - not just as a decorative accent, but as the primary visual element.
The frame was built around a plywood core, which served as the internal skeleton. This structure was then clad in 20mm thick travertine slabs, selected personally by the designer from a specialist stone supplier. A major focus was placed on how the natural veins in the stone would flow. The slabs were cut and arranged so that the veining ran in a continuous horizontal direction across the table sides and legs - an effect that gives the piece a sense of cohesion and calm.
Built to Play, Designed to Impress
While the table stands out visually, it is also a fully functional pool table built to professional standards. The playing surface is covered in a special-order cloth in a subtle bronze shade, chosen to complement the tones in the stone. The pockets are lined with moulded leather, combining traditional craftsmanship with a modern finish.
One of the table’s hidden features is an internal ball return system. Rather than traditional drop pockets, balls are channelled through a concealed mechanism and returned to a custom tray. When not in use, the tray latches away seamlessly to maintain the clean, minimalist look of the table.

Multi-Purpose Design
To increase the table’s usability, we designed a custom 3-piece oak tabletop. When in place, the table can be used as a high buffet surface - perfect for hosting guests. While it's too high for standard dining, it allows the room to transition easily between games and gatherings.
An internal levelling system was built into the legs, allowing for quick and precise adjustments to keep the playing surface perfectly flat, regardless of flooring variations.
The Installation
Due to the complexity of the materials and finishes, installation was a carefully choreographed process. We worked alongside skilled stone masons who came to site to polish and blend all the joins by hand. The result is a seamless finish - there are no visible joints, just smooth, continuous stone surfaces that look as though the table was carved from a single block.
The Result
From concept to completion, the project took five months. The final result is a pool table unlike any other - a balance of form and function, art and engineering. It now sits proudly in its Wiltshire home as a centrepiece of both entertainment and design.
At Hamilton Billiards, the possibilities are endless. Whether you’re an interior designer with a bold vision or a homeowner looking for something truly unique, we bring expertise, experience, and creativity to every table we build.
