A games room is a great place for your family to come together, have some fun and wind down after an exhausting day... but they can be expensive to make. That’s why we have put together this list of ways to create a games room on a budget. After all, having fun doesn’t have to be expensive!

Get a table

Chess, poker, snap, Dobble, draughts, Jenga, Monopoly... what do all these games have in common? They all require a surface to play on. That’s why it is important to have a games table in your room; it opens up hundreds of gaming possibilities. Why not check Facebook Marketplace to see if anyone nearby has an old table that they’re trying to get rid of? You can easily bring it to life with a bold tablecloth!

Buy a used snooker table

Every good games room should have a pool or snooker table, but they can be quite costly. However, Hamilton Billiards have plenty of used snooker tables for sale, and they’re reasonably priced too. While it can seem like a big investment, the tables are high quality, hand-crafted and built to last, and it’ll all be worth it once you see your children smiling.

At Hamilton Billiards, we specialise in creating bespoke, snooker, pool and billiards tables to custom descriptions and drawings. If you have any questions about our tables, contact us at 01462743803 or [email protected]

Get creative with DIY

If you’d love to have a dartboard in your games room, but want to wait until your children are a tad bit older, why not make your own child-friendly version? Grab six different coloured sheets of felt and cut them into different sized circles. Stick them together to make the board, and add numbers to signify the number of points you’ll score. Then, cut up strips of Velcro and glue them around some ping pong balls and just like that, you’re ready to play.

Choose a theme

To bring all the elements of your room together, why not pick a theme? Whether you want to go for a casino theme, pirate theme, or just a blue theme, it will make your room look consistent and well put together. Once you have decided on a theme, you can decorate accordingly. Why not search the web for some cool posters to print out and stick on the walls? If you play poker, you could print a poster detailing the different hand rankings, for any newcomers.

Stock up on accessories

It’s great having a pool table, but you can’t play on it without the accessories. Pool balls are a necessity, and you’ll most likely only ever buy one set. They’re fairly durable and quite hard to lose due to their size, so make sure you buy a set that you like.

While most of us will remember to buy pool cues, many people don’t think about where they’re going to put them when they’re not playing the game. Cue racks keep your cues safe while also allowing you quick and easy access to them. Other accessories to consider include pool trianglespool chalk and chalk holders
