David Lilley defeated Jimmy White 5-3 in the final of the World Seniors Snooker Championship last Sunday night at the Crucible.

Former English amateur champion Lilley defeated Philip Williams, Ken Doherty and Patrick Wallace to face his snooker hero, Jimmy White.

White claimed the previous two titles of the tournament and was aiming to grab his third consecutive crown.

After being 3-0 behind, White started to lose his hope. However, he quickly levelled the match 3-3 and regained hope.

An error on the colours showed to be fatal for White, allowing Lilley to move 4-3 and swiftly finalised his victory with a 69 break.

Lilley claimed the biggest title of his career plus, took home £15,000 winner’s cheque and is in position to claim a place at the Champion of Champions later this year.

Lilley said to Skysports: "I'm a bit speechless, I didn't think I'd get this emotional. Jimmy is my hero – he's everyone's hero. I really don't know what to say; I'm just so happy."

White will have to wait another year to try to claim another victory in this tournament. He commented to Metro how Lilley played very well.

“The first three frames tonight a couple of them I played a few bad safety shots, but he played very well he’s very strong, I was lucky to get back to 3 each, he played well the last frame, good luck to him. ‘I had a chance to go 4-3 up, but listen, he deserved to win. He played well.”
